How to Measure your horse for a blanket.

Step 1. Stand horse straight and square on flat ground. Have a partner help you keep your horse still with his/her head facing forward (any movement or leaning can easily throw off the measurements).

Step 2: Start high on the front of the horse's chest, at the small indentation where the neck meets  the chest. This should ensure that you are measuring around the largest portion of the shoulder.

Step 3: With your partner holding the tape firmly on the center of the chest, bring the tape straight back (remember to keep it level) around the side of the horse and all the way to the tail. Do not measure to the center of the tail. Instead, measure to where the point of buttock meets the tail. (As the blanket should not go past the farthest point of the horse, neither should your measurement.)  Make sure, again, that your horse is standing square and looking straight ahead. Make note of this measurement in inches, and you're done!
